  • First pour was not aerated beyond trying to pour from a good distance above glass.
Deep garnet color made me think this was going to be exceptional.

Nose was pure berries: blackberries and currants especially.
First sip was possibly the best, with luscious berry flavors and not a hint of acidity.
Tannens made themselves felt on the second glass.
Not what I would call a complex wine, but it was full bodied and changed quite a bit through the three small glasses I had during the evening. Took this from appetizer (note to self: throw out stale pumpkin seeds... no wine goes with those) through soup (Ecuadorian goat stew) and main course (butter fried mahi mahi and button mushrooms). Pairing with fish goes without saying was a strange notion, so actually I hauled out some fresh pesto sauce intended for tomorrow, and just downed a few spoonfuls of that with the mushrooms, tupperwaring the fish for brekkies. But this Merlot was nice emough with the cumin & oregano infused stew.

This is not a very adventurous beverage, but because it had a full bodied platform under an uncomplicated berry flavor, it was fine to have with a bizarre dinner. I don't think this will age well.
