  • PnP and let sit for about 15 minutes. Color is lighter, transparent red with some brick and a strip of orange around the edge. Red cherry, perhaps some candied cherry notes, mint, dirt, some garrigue, mushroom and vanilla. There is little volatile blow off. Initial flavors before dinner of tart cherry and cranberry, a bit of wood, some vanilla, well-integrated and light+ to medium- tannin leaving a mouthwatering finish with lingering fruit, mint and vanilla. This is very nice and smooth on its own before dinner. The comment from other consumer quickly remarked wishing we had purchased more. This is much more delicate than a Barolo or Barbaresco. Drinking with dinner of savory beef stew with roasted brussel sprouts and potatoes. With the beef in the stew the wine is light and balanced. With the vegetables in the stew the fruit, acid and savory herbs shine more brightly. With the brussel sprouts and potatoes the wine recedes a ways into the background with more muted notes across the board. No sign of the bitter note in the finish mentioned previously. After dinner the wine is good on its own with more notes of vanilla, menthol and herbs creeping back in.

  • Opened about 75 minutes before arrival, double decanted and brought by company. Drank with cheese and crackers before dinner, with dinner of grilled NY strip sirloin steaks with garlic, rosemary, Montreal Steak seasoning and olive oil, Morel mushroom risotto and a kale salad with shaved parmesan, toasted almonds and dried cherries with a lemon vinaigrette. Drank the wine in parallel with a 2011 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo. We were contrasting and comparing the wines with the various parts of the meal. The Barolo was a more powerful wine and needed richer, riper food to stand up to it. The Rausse Nebbiolo Reserve was a lighter and more delicate wine showing more nuance with the milder food in the meal. Most commented that there was a harsh bitter note mid-taste that faded in the finish. No detailed notes taken. Floral, fruit, herbal and forest characteristics typical for Nebbiolo noted by all. Wine was great with dinner. Everyone enjoyed.
