  • Canon vs. Duffau-Lagarrosse 2009-2020 tasted blind (Fribourg): Light garnet, Primary and discrete, lots of acidity, good balance though. Decent but not a grand wine.

  • This was actually rather lovely; polished and clean. And when drunk next to the 2002 Lafite, it managed to hold its own. Bright red cherry fruits, pencil shavings, graphite, elegant and full of finesse.

  • A reasonably good but somewhat irregular vintage and this is clearly an excellent specimen. The Château and its vineyards are situated on the high plateau near St.Emilion-town with soils of limestone and clay. Approx.75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Medium deep color with already some brown. Seductive on the nose and palate with cassis, noble oak, herbs, abundant but quite civilized tannins and a fresh medium long finish. The 14% alcohol is unnoticeable. For me this wine is ready to drink (I generally prefer my wines on the young side), but tasters who want it softer can safely wait for another 5 years before uncorking a bottle.
I bought this wine in 2020 for a reduced price of 57€. Prices have skyrocketed since then and so has probably the quality.

  • My colleagues and I organized a mini Canon vertical to redefine the scores in relation to the fabulous 2022 vintage. We cannot put 100 points everywhere. 2021 not tasted. Naturally these notes correspond to an "M" moment and are likely to vary at another moment

    1) 2020 100/100
    2) 2019 -2022 (sample) 98-99/100
    4) 2018-2016-2015 97-98/100
    7) 2014 94/100
    8) 2017 93/100

  • So the story of 2014 continues... A vintage of the haves and have nots. I found this one on the not side. You can taste the pedigree of the wine, and up front it was all there! It was on the backend or lack of a backend that was how this landed in the not zone. I can best describe what I experienced as "half a wine". Overall was very thin, which is a characteristic of this vintage, COS had the same issue or at least in 2017 when I tried 1 of 9 bottles. Still sitting on the others waiting for it to gain weight. As for the haves, Figeac fell into that category. A really nice wine, not only for the vintage, but overall. As for Canon, i have a 2015 in the chamber - that will be my next one! The best one ever made so they say! waiting on my 2020s.
