  • Dark and rustic. Coarse tannins. Interesting wine, worth it at around $10

  • I actually enjoyed the tannins and didn't think they were too over-the-top. However, that was about all. There just wasn't much flavor, as if the wine was mostyl made with stems and seeds and very little fruit. I'm not so sure this will improve over the years. As the tannins subside, I'm not sure there will be much left there.

  • COLOR - dark inky black; great color. NOSE - this is a very French nose, very floral. TASTE - mouthfeel is very abrasive, the tannins are too strong, and a bit out of balance; orange peel, sour fruits predominate. RATING - 84. I retasted this several days later (same bottle), and give the same review; time and breathing didn't tame the tannins.

  • Wowza! This was certainly controversial last night with Karl, Snorri and Mer-Mer. My first experience with Madiran and I had no idea what to expect. Dark ruby color, burnt coffee aroma. To say that this is extraordinarily tannic is to understate the case— a mouthful of this wine is like eating an unripe persimmon. Despite its unpopularity at our dinner table, I think I'll go back for a few more bottles and lay them away. Drink something like six years from now.
