  • Champagne and claret (John's place, Croton): Oh, this is the good stuff. Such a spectacular fragrance here - so complex and haunting that somehow it took my attention away from the '89 Magdelaine in the adjacent glass (yes, really). An array of bright spicy and herbal notes dominate and lead into a core of red and dark fruited flavours that are conveyed with remarkable intensity and brightness on a medium weight frame. Grainy tannin and bright acids add plenty of structure here; this has years to burn but it's absolutely delicious and irresistible now. Gorgeous wine.

  • Top of cork was clean. Used an Ah-So to remove the cork, which was supple and about 80% saturated. Decanted for about 3 hours. Served with veal stew for my daughter's birthday, since it was made in the year she was born. Shy nose, which eventually offered up some tobacco notes and minty herbs, with a hint of raisin. Good bricking. Held up well. Laid like silk on the tongue. Very enjoyable.

  • Last bottle and went out in style
Mold under the cap and saturated cork but the wine was still good although definitely showing it’s age. Shared with a friend who never drank this before and he loved it. Feel like I’ve lost an old friend but the me
    Pries are great

  • Drinking well. At a perfect stage. Interesting nose, aged it is. Aged Saint Emillion. Some forest floor on nose. Meaty. Nice color. Thistle taste in background. Kinda like when I made a home brew wine with too much oak chips and allowed to age for a couple of years an irritating thistle taste developed kinda like the bitterness found in dandelions.
    Overall excellent.
*2nd night thistle element blown off. Aged St. Emillion and like walking into an old house. Very nice. Takes me back to all the old houses in youth and the past and drinking them on the palette.
Drinking with true German Bratwurst, real Dijon mustard and handcraft traditional sour kraut though short cut. Wow!
    Beautiful pairing, weird but sentimental.
Darkside power little subdued in this right bank.

Saw this 1989 and I had to swoop up on it, due to great bottles tasted in past across the French wine regions. Usually at a great spot but not always.

  • PNP and I really enjoyed this bottle
Getting old and maybe not subtle but love the earthy fruit and no hard edges
    Could drink thin any night
