Mill Pond Family Reunion: Same situation as last note. This is a really fun wine that worked well slightly chilled on a summer evening. The family enjoyed it and the California family was impressed when I showed them it was a Virginia Merlot-based blend. Good wines, straightforward but reliable. Will seek out other vintages.

Fourth of July Weekend; 7/2/2016-7/4/2016: A kind of dull ruby color. Tart red fruits on the nose (raspberries, cranberries) with juicy black cherries and notes of tobacco, violets and mushroom. Medium-plus-bodied with medium acidity and a dusty/velvety tannic structure. Black cherries galore along with cranberry sauce and currant tea. I get a loam and tar elements that spices up the cedar and coffee flavors. Nice balance, presents itself well, but still enough concentration for a few years in the cellar. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc aged 15 months in American and French oak.

Right nearing the end of where I would drink this. Nose took awhile to blow off some... weird? That said, tasting pretty solid.
