Two Côte-Rôtie, a Bandol and a DOA Barbaresco with Greg and Asher. (Afghan Kebab House.): Serious ass in the glass upon opening. Very animally, but it took on an interesting raspberry and stewed tomato character with air before losing most of the tomato note and developing nice spiciness. Quite soft on the palate and drinking a point, imo. Pleasant earthy notes came up after awhile, but the wine always remained animal with a nice current of raspberry running through it. Needless to say, a great match with the lamb kebab. B+.

This really stinks with fetid game notes dominating before adding a light confiture of raspberry and tomato. Lovely resolved medium bodied wine in the mouth with good balance and moderately rich flavors of earth, leather, and gentle red fruits. Grew a bit longer and more linear with air and worked well with the simple food but ultimately remains a simple, rustic wine with good, very savory complexity. 2008-2011
