Portugal; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal): From a 375. Lemon-green; minerals, slate, slight lime; palate is light bodied, medium-plus acid, low alcohol, nice length, lemony citrus, minerals; medium finish. Excellent balance and nice length for the affordable price of 8 euros a half bottle in a restaurant. 88

This is a very nice Vinho Verde, a Loureiro-Alvarinho blend that is characteristically fresh, crisp (even sharp), (youthfully) green, and (very lightly) sparkly. There's not a ton of complexity or depth, but of course that's not the point. Instead, there's a lively nose of lemon-lime, pear, guava, fresh grass, and loads of minerals, with additional apple and grapefruit on the palate, the mineral notes providing a firm, steely backbone beneath the more wobbly fruit, and a very dry finish. There's too much lime sourness mid-palate and too much grapefruit-pith bitterness on the finish, but this is nonetheless a solid Vinho Verde, pretty much just what you want from the style, in the 87-88 range.

Interesting white from Vinho Verde that I was convinced actually was a Rheingauer Riesling. How wrong I was. Fresh and dry with high acidity. Fruity with green apples and some minerals. To me more of a talk wine than a fish wine. Would be interesting to know what it is paired with in Minho.

Nice white to complement a mostly soft cheese plate with strawberries. Slightly dry, light, crisp. A go to with cheese.

Pale yellow color wine with light tart and green apple notes with some notes of residuals sugar. Easy drinking for hot summer days.
