Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #038: Portugal (By RW): Complex bouquet with dark berries, plum, oak, earth and even impressions of shoe polish. On the palate juicy dark berries, plums, some red berries, sweet spices, some mint, juicy acidity and tannin. Beautiful wine which is still developing for the better. 92+

Restaurant pop and decant and wait. I chose this for wine 2 at dinner - same restaurant. Really pretty ordinary at pop time, but this came round very very nicely indeed after about 90 minutes - "younger" seeming than the last one this oozes class and personality around red things - some pepper, nice edges and a fabulous finish - lovely wine with years ahead of it.

Restaurant Pop and Pour - not bad from minute one, but better after thirty - lovely wine - some mead in the nose - a slight hint of bricking - rich and smooth and yummy - mature Baga at its best.

Académie des Cinquante Portugal Tasting (Diner Thuis, The Hague, NL): 100% Baga, aged for 18 months in new Allier barriques. Wonderfully pure Baga character, dusty and very tannic but good integration, lapsang, leather, soft fruit, slender, refreshing, lovely balance, very good length. Excellent wine, but lacks the complexity and charm for a higher score.

Weekly tasting group #098; A fully blind test. (@ BS): See also previous note. Beautiful bouquet with ripe red and dark forest fruits. Same on the palate. The black fruits dominate. Firm acidity and sticky tannin. The wine needs some more time in the bottle. 2016 and later.
