30 years of 1985 Bordeaux at The Papies (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Such a beauty and really underrated. Granted not the most dense Yquem nor the most expressive but this had a beauty in its lightness, a purity and felt very much complete. It also came after a long flight of other red 85s and instantly shown which shows the quality and beauty of this wine. Great now but it will last for sure. Vintages come and vintages go. Yquem is Yquem. 95-97
Light straw gold colour. Nose is succulent late summer's evening honeysuckle and a bit of fresh hay in a horse's stable. Palate is corpulent mouthfeel on entry, honeyed in several dimensions, burnished copper pans, gorgeously hedonistic. Deep, resonant and long reverberant finish. It possesses all the class of the vintage but it is still a puppy.
Some GREAT wine swith friends (new and old) (Chris and Renee's Home): Chris had bought this years ago, for his wife's birthday. It has travelled to Asia, Australia and back. I guess she finally reached 40, so he opened it. ;-) Orange-gold in color. The nose is very nice with oranges, apricots and burnt sugar notes. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is just barely sweet. Apparently there was little botrytis that year. It is still quite delicious with a finish that last forever. Perfectly balanced. This bottle is certainly no worse for wear and is drinking beautifully.
