Disappointing! I have generally avoided French wines from 2003 and tasting this wine confirms that it wasthe right decision. It's flabby, diluted; something that should never happen in the Savennieres appellation. The color has help up but that's about it. The aromas are gone with just a residual sniff of canned vegetables ( carrots and peas). Drink up!

A big disappointment. Virtually no flavour, and certainly no Savennieres character. If it had been sealed with a cork I would probably have guessed it was corked and the aromas robbed. But it's screwcap. Hmmm... I could be kind and class it as flawed, but the last time I opened a bottle it was similarly boring, so it's not an individual faulty bottle. Not undrinkable, but really one of the most boring wines I've ever encountered. So we didn't drink it!

Like almost all post-1996 Baumard wines, this was rubbish. Not oxidised for once, but flat and over the hill. Not worth drinking. How are the mighty fallen.

I opened this after two oxidized bolts of Loire Chenin. I was feeling down, I was a bit skeptical, but this came through: citrus and a bit of petrol with weight and depth. This might be on its downward slope, but it is still fantastic. thedrunkencyclist.com

Had this last week. Didn't take notes, but I thought this was outstanding. The 2003 vintage effect seemed to have no effect on this bottle. It was a wild ride of intense minerality with a very long finish. More minerality than fruit for sure, but it was very well balanced and ready to drink. But this will last a long time if this bottle is anything to go by. Unfortunately, this was my last bottle (A-).

(Domaine des Baumard Clos du Papillon, Savennières, Loire Valley) A rarity indeed: a Savennières sealed with a screwcap. The effect of this wine is immediate—first from its color, which is remarkably pale for a wine of its age (especially one from the hot 2003 vintage), and second from its exuberant aroma. The nose has a wonderful floral freshness, underpinned with unmistakable Chenin notes of beeswax and lanolin. Equally lively on the palate, the wine is full of ripe, zesty fruit, finishing super-crisp and clean with mineral length. Hot Picks
