  • Took this to last night's wine group. It had some citrusy and apple flavors. Most of the group thought it was Italian or Verdejo - an eye opener from Basque Country for some of them. Nothing profound about the wine, but it was dry with a clean taste and went well with the first course of oysters.

  • 2014 TXOMIN ETXANIZ GETARIA GETARIAKO TXAKOLINA- on a hot summer day, this rose hit the spot with chilled and refreshing entry notes of clove, spice, rose petals and red cherry which dried out a bit by mid palate, but it was the crisp and cool beverage that made this a good start; made from Hondarrabi Beltza.

  • Taut and precise with mineral laced aromas of dried herb, citrus and celery. The palate has lovely balancing ripe sweet snap pea flavors to counter the tart, saline flavors and laser like acidity. There is also an intriguing feral/meaty note that adds complexity.

  • Youthful pale green color with some bubbles forming inside the glass. Cool, oceanic nose with aromas of unripe apple, stony minerality, some salinity and a hint of herbal nuances. Very light-bodied and crisp palate with pronounced acidity. Taut, austere flavors of fresh Granny Smith apple, ground green herbs, some saline minerality and hints of stony bitterness. The mouthfeel is remarkably fresh with the combination of very low alcohol (11%), very high acidity and a slight hint of CO2 prickle. Very acid-driven, mouth-puckering and refreshing finish with long, powerful and persistent flavors of stony minerality, green herbs and unripe green apple.

Very enjoyable example of Basque white wine: a remarkably light, crisp, structured and refreshing stuff, stylistically very close to a good Muscadet. Enjoyable well-chilled on its own on a hot summer's day or paired with either white fish or fresh vegetables. A good purchase at 9,20€.

  • A private dinner (Restaurant Elkano *, Getaria, Spain): Crisp and fresh but not acidic, light but juicy, lemon and herbs, nice touch of salinity. Vibrant and perfectly delicious - and of course never better than in the town where the vines grow...
