Brought this to a mate's place for dinner. Theme of the evening: Barolo from 2008 to 2012.
Brownish purple in colour. Bottle breathed for 8 hours before consumption. Some cherries on the nose, coupled with a slight touch of tobacco, aged leather, anise, coffee, and earth.
Did not have the complexity expected from a famed Barolo produced. Was told that this was a blended Barolo instead of a single vineyard.

The wife tested positive this week for SARS2, fortunately she is asymptomatic. So tonight we decided to check in on our smell and taste sense, also making sure we use them one last time before they potentially dissappear (hopefully not). Good news, we are both able to report back positively on this 2011 Barolo. This is one of the first bottles I bought in the >$30 range as a I was getting more into fine wine 3-4 years ago. The wine has a lighter, see-through color than I would have expected for a Barolo. Nose is all about flowers and lime. Tastes of red cherry, anise, and leather. Still plenty of accidity and medium tannins. I think this is still getting better, but no harm in popping the cork. It’s an entry level Barolo and an average vintage, but certainly recommendable.

Classic Barolo made from blended Nebbiolo fruit. Light garnet color with aromas of ripe berries, rose petals, mocha, toast and a hint of cloves. Forward pallet of ripe black cherry, tar, toasted coconut and coffee. A minty note on the finish. Firm tannins.

Good, but somehow disjointed tastes on the palate.

Still big and earthy but lots of elegance. Truffle earthy depth and very aromatic. This is my preffered style of barolo
