Bright medium purple in color. Some reddish hints but closer to magenta than ruby. Interesting---from the nose and the color, I think that blind I would guess this were syrah. Bright, fresh brambly blackberry and plum fruit, lifted by floral notes of violet and dried rose petals. Some Asian spice as well. With some air, a very prominent aroma of tea leaves emerges. Quite high toned and perfumed, with little of the more savage, meaty, smoky character I usually associate with the variety. I suppose it's the youth of the vines showing itself. On the palate, it's mostly primary, with lots of juicy fresh sour cherry and plum fruit, but there's also a nice dusty mineral undertone that balances the fruit very well, and the black tea character asserts itself toward the finish, which is bone dry with a healthy but not at all overpowering dusting of surprisingly fine tannin. Good acid and modest alcohol give it nice energy and freshness, and overall it's extremely well made and well balanced.
This is smashing wine for the money, easy drinking but not boring, good fruit, good structure, food friendly, with just enough going on to be interesting. I adore wines like this. Bravo.

Vini d'Italia Tour (Altanta): Bright maroon, see through; fresh, young, deep rose, red plum, nice dark red fruit; easier drinking; tasty, more food friendly than a big, Taurasi.
