Light gold, with a muted but nutty nose. Honey and soft spice and pepper, with a silky mouthfeel and a long finish. My initial reaction is that while it's delicious, it lacks power and it may be over the hill. However, given some air, it develops real depth and impact, and starts to show a typical Marsanne bitter note. The finish becomes much stronger, with a lemony (!) flavour - it just goes on and on. Slightly warm though. Returning to the bottle on Day 2 it has become an impressive expression of mature white Hermitage. This wine really needs plenty of air to show what it can offer - and it is certainly not over the hill. dg+

Post Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner with Musicians (1243 Bourgogne Society - Beaune): Ripe stone fruit with great honeyed, caramelized character and lots of depth and concentration. Almost sweet. Unctuous textures. Kept changing and unfolding in increasingly interesting ways. Very impressive, not a wine I really knew much about before.

UK Wine Forum 'Vintage Pairs' Offline (Le Colombier, London): Mid yellow. Dry, waxy, lanolin. Must be northern Rhone and somewhere in Hermitage. Not my style. *1/2 for me, I'd guess nearer *** if you like that sort of thing.
