    Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of red hills dirt, birch, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black raspberries, cherries and plums. Tart acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink with air or hold.

  • Tasting pour from magnum; a beautiful nose starts with floral scents and bright red berry fruit; a bit of spice and earth emerge with some time; the palate is elegant and fresh with superb balance and good density for a '13; the finish fans out nicely and while it doesn't have the mid-palate concentration of better vintages this is a superb effort which I clearly preferred compared the the '12 Botanica. Drinking well now and likely with 4-5 years of positive development still to come.

  • My bottles continue to evolve and I am not as confident that this wine has peaked as other notes suggest. The nose is to me exceptionally aromatic and expressive. While very smooth, it seems to be continuing to develop depth and weight. I intend to continue aging my remaining bottles, pulling one every few years

  • The wine was decanted for four hours and then served. It was light medium bodied with dark cherry on the palet. Very little tannins were left and I suspect the wine is primarily holding its own right now without further positive development. I would drink this up now or hold for no more than one year. It is pleasant, but I prefer my Pinot’s with more character and fruit. The wine does not have a good QPR. I believe 2013 was a wet year and it is reflected in the lack of intensity of the fruit. Perhaps an hour or two decant might have helped, but I can’t say for sure.

  • Black cherry, spice and earth notes on the nose. Just above medium bodied (13.1% ABV) with rounded and open black cherry upfront. Excellent depth through the middle and adds some red cherry highlights to the predominantly black cherry presentation. Spice notes and integrated tannins on the backside and through the finish. At first, I was a bit underwhelmed, especially alongside the 2017 Big Table Farm Earth. However, the wine really opened up after about four hours and took a distinct jump to another level. Mid-body was much silkier, balance improved and it seemed to even have more density. If opening now, I'd give it three hours minimum. Has the structural elements to potentially improve with a bit more time, but I suspect this wine is close to peak and just requires a good amount of time open to really show its best. Next bottle for me, June/July 2022.
