A really lovely nose here: wide open, bright and nuanced. It is quite zesty with notes of green apple, ginger, lees, iodine, chalk and a hint of torrefaction. The fine mousse is absolutely mouth-caressing and fairly persistent. The dosage seems to be on the friendly side for sure but there is fine acidity and again things get pleasantly zesty and dry towards the finish. There are some spicy and toasty notes on the palate but at the same time it is youthfully fruity and lively. It not incredibly complex this comes off as refined and classy. While slightly sweetish by modern standards it is impeccably balanced and immensely enjoyable. There is a sense of weightlessness which I find very admirable. The flavor profile is not perhaps as exotic as one might expect considering the amount of Meunier, the Chardonnay feels to dominate to some degree which is by no means a negative. A fine wine without a doubt - I’ll take the slight sweetness any day over the too austere, under dosaged grower wines.

Luis Italian Wine Tasting at Broder's: This was a decent Champagne. Color was golden wheat. Nose showed straw, brioche and citrus. Palate was lemon peel, chalk and tart green apple, with a little melon and some creaminess. The Champagne had plenty of acidity to keep it quite lively. I suspect this will improve a little with some additional age, but more than serviceable now. 91 today for my palate.

Italian wines on Broders patio (Broders Patio): This is a lightweight and energetic champagne. Lemon and chaulk stand out. Nice to drink, maybe price appropriate or slightly overpriced. I expected more from the 2008 vintage.

Italians at Broder's (Broder's Pasta Bar, Minneapolis): Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes plus. I like the nose more on this than the palate. The nose has an appealing bready quality with green apple and apple peel, chalk, and apple peel. On the palate I find this somewhat angular and more oxidative than I prefer. There's nice and distinct creaminess to the palate though along with the apple peel, oxidative style, bread dough, green apple, dry chalky minerality and sharper citrus pith.
