  • A touch of VA on the nose. Quite ripe fruits. A touch of earth and some truffle.

  • A superiore-style Barbera aged in 350 liter oak casks (20% new, 40% 2nd use, 40% 3rd use). Alc 13,5%.

Quite dark, almost black cherry color with little translucency. Supple, dark-toned nose with polished aromas of ripe dark cherry, loam, some sweet oak, a little plummy fruit and bright hints of tart red berries. Dry, medium-bodied palate with some sense of richness and concentration. Vibrant flavors of ripe cherries, sour cherries, some sweet oak aromatics, a little plummy fruit and hints of chocolate shavings. Balanced acidity and powdery, modest-to-medium tannins. Quite long and a bit coarse finish with a little tannic grip and flavors of exotic spices, sour cherries, some dark plummy fruit and hints of sweet oak.

A good, balanced and structured Barbera from the more modern, polished end. The wine shows the bright fruit and balanced acidity the variety excels in, but it is also quite brooding and serious in its expression with ripe, weighty fruity character and polished sweet oak sheen. Good stuff, but stylistically I am not so keen on wines like these. For people who prefer their Barberas more serious and heavy instead of just simple, bright pizza wines.
