  • Only gave this a brief decant before serving as I felt it might be too developed and fall over easily. Less than half an hour.
Really one of the most impressive wines I've ever tasted. At first I noticed a bit of a bretty saddle leather type thing but it kind of dissipated. Evolved quite a bit actually. Terrific complexity of earth, gravel, orange rind, dark chocolate, coffee grounds, raspberries, tulips... The palate was sublime. I lost count assessing the length but it was very long and felt like 45 seconds at least. Not mouth-coating and dense though. Just a lot of staying power. Seamless palate, everything in it's right place. Gentle smooth acidity, brilliant evolving flourish of flavour at the end exploding on the palate.
Aussie Icon from a great vintage at it's absolute peak. A privilege. Will remember this for a long long time.

  • Double decant 3 hours. This had me worried out of the bottle - a browning rim, pungent nose and tang to taste. Relieved after coming back to it a few hours later. While not the best MTE I've ever had, it sang in the typical Henschke way and was close to my WOTN in a top shelf Xmas lineup.

  • Regular dinner group (@ PZ): In the bouquet mint and eucalyptus. Same on the palate, a lot of sweetness but also still beautiful acidity with beautiful freshness and soft tannin. Overall a beautiful and mature wine which is still very much alive and no real hurry.

  • Smoky, sweet, absolutely harmonious, multi-layered - delightful

  • Forward red fruit, earthy, mineral notes and smoke; intense palate; ripe medium tannins still around; good acidity, moderate finish.
