  • Ullage into neck. Decanted 1 hour and drank through 2nd hour. Got better with time. Minimal sediment for the age. Slight brick edges. Nose: Prominent spearmint over some lanolin. Amazing length on the palate. Drinking well now and for at least another few years.

  • Popped and poured and served blind to friends Bruce, Matt next door, and Diane, in my living room, after a bunch of other great wines. Everyone loved it, including me, and all struggled to ID not only the origin but even the varietal(s). Amazed everyone when the wine's identity was revealed. Very special, and still drinking exceedingly well. Extra kudos for longevity. 5-13-17-9: 94/100.

  • Impressive showing at age 25. Still opaque, with a ruby rim and red legs. (Lightning note still spot-on.) Nice nose with menthol and classic cedar and lead pencil shavings. Sweetish fruit in the mouth showing ripeness but not overripeness. Definitely more feminine than masculine and character with red rather than black fruits. This one is in a very good place right now and it’s hard to predict how long it might continue, it may even be on the downslope but actually hard to tell. I won’t go as high as some tasters but I think this is very good wine and I have little experience with aged Aussie wines. In fact this is the oldest Aussie I can ever remember tasting. It certainly encourages me not to worry about drinking some of my younger Australian reds. 5-13-16-9: 93/100.

  • Ordered off wine list at LNB.

Wine served from wine fridge, and decanted for 15 minutes. Cork soaked halfway through.

Garnet red all the way through to the meniscus, deep colour, no sign of bricking whatsoever. Appearance-wise, could pass for 10 yo.

The nose is that really enjoyable sweet plum aroma that comes from a well-aged shiraz. Sings the same note for most of the night, but very pleasant. Between medium to full-bodied (14.1% ABV) - surprising for a wine of this age - mid-weight tannins announce themselves after midpalate. Good length. Dark cherry and plum flavour profile.

This wine is likely at its peak, but based on this bottle will stay strong for another 5 years quite comfortably. Like a marathon runner on cruise control at the moment.

  • I bought this wine solely off Gazonator's review below, and, skeptically, I thought it was 50/50 to be either better than average or too old. Well, this wine delivered. Decanted for a small amount of sediment, the wine pours a mature red color and is dark crimson with red edges in the glass. The nose is immediately expressive with white pepper, smoked meat, vanilla bean, red and black cherry, blackberry, and sweet bubble gum. Strong spearmint and tar/asphalt notes develop with time in the glass. The palate is extremely well integrated but still has enough acidity, with deep black cherry, tangy pomegranate, red licorice, and a range of spices. The mouthfeel is smooth and seamlessly transitions to a ripe finish. This does not need time in the decanter--decant for sediment only and drink immediately--but it could easily last a few more years.
