Bought 6-pack on release; WS gave 83, big mistake, this wine needed time. 1st bottle: deep rich merlot in '05, excellent with porterhouse; last one was more impressive having taken on some complexity. But its charm remains typically Calif (at least from 1991 and from a gifted wine maker) - pure, well-balanced, solid fruit, good match with food, time in hand for those with more. A clear success.
Last bottle of 9 purchased from the Opimium Society in the early '90's. Surprisingly bright deep red colour, with just a touch of fade to the rim. A very "Bordeaux" nose reflecting the blend - 60% Merlot / 35% Cabernet Sauvignon / 5% Cabernet Franc. A nice long finish. This is a point now and really a vey nice bottle of wine. Drink up!
Tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. Bottle provided by Ken Johnson. Bright disc. Opaque garnet robe with brick rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense aromas of prunes, black plums and tobacco. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and melted tannins. The flavors are ripe (raisiny/pruney). Medium finish. Underwhelming.
