  • 51% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 13.7% ABV. Full of black cherries, mint and sage, earth, a hint of bitter chocolate. Still rich with plenty of fine tannin, almost lush but with a certain mountain austerity that relaxes with food. Has held up beautifully from an unheralded vintage.

  • Lunch wine at Bymark. Drank together with 1993 La Jota Cabernet. This one showed well from the first sip. Forward nose of cherry and strawberry with mineral notes and just a touch of cedar. The palate is completely resolved but not without structure. It put on more and more weight over the two hours we drank it, but always showing balance leading to a decently long finish. Not a powerful wine, but very satisfying.

  • Wow. Lots of life left in this one. Stewed cranberries, prunes, and still some tannins left.

  • The first pricey bottle of wine I purchased when I was just starting to learnabout wine. I loved it way back when. I was surprised that it has stood up well. I would not say that I love it now but it is still alive and it is well made. At 28 years old- it is still got some vibarncy on day 2!

  • Opened and allowed this to slow ox for about an hour and then consumed over about 4 hours.

Nose: Gorgeous nose of red plum, black raspberry, sage, leather, spearmint and cocoa.. Evolves and cbanges beautifully. Palate: Begins mid weight and translucent with bright red cherry, plum, raspberry, cocoa and fresh herbs. Mineral and earth undertones so typical of this side of the mayacamas mountains. Gains weight and layers as the wine opens. Evolves to show plum, mint, blackberry, cherry, slight spice and coconut oak. Finish: detailed and long with raspberry fruit and herbs.

Beautiful merlot leading blend that has the red fruited vibrancy of certain vintages of Palmer yet is so classically CA. Old bordeaux lovers will enjoy this. 13.7% ... low alc CA wins again.
