Had this for my wife’s birthday (birth year wine). Definitely on the downslope from peak, with the acid having surpassed the tannin and, unsurprisingly, no remaining fruit. But it still has some energy—big truffle on the nose, lots of umami to go with the acid on the palate, and still a decent finish. Have two more; will be interesting to see how they compare, but won’t wait too long.

Great Dinner April 2021: Decanted for 1.5 hours before serving. Fully integrated, and it offers quite strong taste of soil - quite typical for vintage Barbaresco. Powerful and long finishing.

Gary's Intro Retro -- Italia!: Served double blind. This wine looks much older than the three prior wines. The nose, especially initially, is glorious and ethereal with dried black cherry, dried florals, old leather, mushroom and spice. The palate is fine but lacks the layering and energy of the nose. Loses steam with time in the glass. Better to drink sooner than later. My #5, group's #5.

Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Goes Italian (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind in what turned out to be a Gaja Barbaresco flight. Fully mature red cherry with moderate power and complexity vs others in the flight. Best when first poured, lost steam quickly.

It's definitely my luck to taste 2 bottles from such an old wine from legendary winery in last 6 months. I just write 1 review combining my experience of 2 bottles.
The conditions of 2 bottles were superb. Popped and poured during wine gathering with friends. Turbid lemon tea-like colour with lots of precipitates. It showed aroma of fresh rose petal first and then turned to dried flowers and oxidized red fruits in glass quickly, mixing with some muddy earthy soil aroma. Good acidity, closed to hawthorn and lemon tea. There's not much fruitiness in mouth but the fresh flower petal aroma were bombing in aftertaste, very powerful and impressive. The structure was completely soften but not collapsed, silky as tea. Thumbs up.
