Firm, almost strict, classic, four square style of wine, with a tannic edge. There is plenty of tobacco, earth, forest, cassis, cedar wood and cranberry to go around, but the wine does have a very austere character. this wine is going to please some folks more than others.
Fully mature. A lovely wine but I rated this higher previously. Wonder aromas of ripe fruit with softened tannins. However, it does seem to fade in the glass. It is not in decline but I think I will give it a much shorter decant in future.
Classic St-Julien, albeit with a much higher-than-normal for the appellation dose of merlot in the blend (about 40%) giving it a plummy precociousness, which means it tends to be more approachable than other highbrow 1995 St-Js. Lovely cedar, cigar box, lead pencil entry, smooth palate, nicely resolved and satisfying, it falls away a little bit on the back end, however.
