Mature but lively appearance; open and mature nose, good depth, earth (but not barnyard), lead pencil, cedar, ripe cherries, hint of evolution; the palate still displays its ripe 1999-fruit on the silky attack, medium weight, fresh but not drying, relatively light structure but with good phenolic grip; cold tea and spice finish, good length. Fully mature, very attractive, went down a treat with home-made traditional Ragú Bolognese.
Notes of cedar, cigar box and cassis, but what really impresses initially is the luxurious velvet texture, not dissimilar to that of a top Madiran. 99 is not generally a full bodied vintage but this has a great dollop of chewy, hunky fruit. The only problem is that the fruit is not very ripe: it has gone into the second phase of jamminess, but the cassis and blackberry taste rather dry, leaving a bitterness in the mouth that increases with time, along with a strong sensation of green pepper. Great texture but not the best example of LR.
This wine keeps improving. Beautiful and luxurious bouquet with cedar, cassis, some tobacco and smoke and pleasant barnyard. On the palate luxurious a well with red and black forest fruits, good acidity and soft, well integrated tannin with still a nice bite. Ready now but no real hurry. Lovely wine, which make you feel rich for a nice price.
Beautiful and mature bouquet with good cassis, beautifully toasted oak and some pleasant barnyard. On the palate classical and modern at the same time. Beautiful dark forest fruits, cassis, coffee, leather, some sweetness, good acidity and soft but also powerful tannin. Not for extreme long cellaring anymore, but the bite is perfect. Ready now and the next few years.
