This was one of two great wines (the other a CdP) paired with rack of lamb chargrilled with a savory rub and a pomegranate-orange syrup (really good...see the Weber website). This wine was a stellar pairing. It's smoky meaty flavor harmonized perfectly and the dark fruit and licorice flavors complemented. Very very good and the better of the two wines per everyone at the table
Blind tasting. Fully ready, subtle, multidimensional nose. Dark fruit of plum and Blackberry, full and deep. Slight toast, subtle notes of tobacco, iron and mineral. Perfectly mature, tight, fullish palate. Dark fruit, liquorice, cigarre and smoke. Very good structure and very good grip. Lovely notes of violets, plum, coffee. Elegant and multidimensional. Tasted blind against other 1997-98 Syrah's, this was WOTN for many tasters this night. Perfomed even better than the 1998 Ampuis.
Rich, ample, oaky and mature nose. Chocolate, butterscotch and blackberry fruit. Notes of violets, mint, and plums. Powerful but not very subtle. Fullish body, concentrated palate with dark fruit, blackberry, butterscoth (!) and ink. Concentrated and well kept. Tannic. Maybe a bit wild and funky. Lacking elegance but a lot of wine.
