  • Nose of cedar and tobacco. Nice relatively light to medium bodied mouthfeel. Good balance of acidity and tannins on the very finish which shows just a touch of Kirsch.

  • This was the best showing for this wine since the really good bottles just after release. Decanted and poured, the nose was expressive from the first glass and mostly remained so. After a couple hours open, the tannins came to dominate more on the finish, but I had feared the fruit wouldnt out-live the wines rather formidable tannins. As often seems the case with Bordeaux, if you don't like a wine, (this was delicious young, but too tannic for years).....just wait.

  • I thought these were better in their relative youth. Too much wet earth for my spouse. I thought it was okay with roast lamb - but we have so many wines that pair with lamb and which drink better.

  • I approached this bottle with more than a little trepidation. It has been three years since I've tried it, but past bottles have suggested the tannins were going to be longer lived than the fruit. This was a pleasant surprise. Lots of sediment. Decanted. After about two hours, the nose really came out to play. Medium bodies, tastes fairly merlot (if evolved) The tannins are still present, and a bit drying, but in a reasonable semblance of balance.

  • Bought 5b for 21/b from a small New Orleans chain 16 years ago; this is #2. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Almost opaque dark purple; initially reticent nose of cassis, some blackberry that evolved; dark fruits, very good mouthfeel; some persistence. While almost brooding, this was delicious. Glad I have more. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. This is notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.
