  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep red/purple center with oranging rims. The high intensity nose showed roses, roasted meat, black cherries, soy, and soil.

The mouth feel was quite refined but it had a very impressive blast of flavor. Ripe and round, it had great complexity and length. If one could quibble, it had just a touch of dryness relative to a great vintage.

Overall, this bottle seemed bit more evolved than the one I tasted a couple years ago. This one appeared to be at its peak. Impressive!

  • Tasted blind, this wine showed a deep red/purple center with some orange at the rim. The nose showed lovely violets, bacon fat, black fruits, and soil. In the mouth it was very ripe, round, and juicy with substantial rounded tannin and great length.

I am sure this was a bit closed down in the past and was probably a bit of a sleeper. It should even be a bit better in 5 years and it will last for many years after that. I did factor in some potential in my score, but I loved it now anyway.

  • Dallas Blur Tasting 2003: Medium red in color, slightly cloudy. Sweet nose of soap, leather and red fruit. Plums. Medium-bodied. Nice. Has a certain Je nais se quois.

(Guigal Cote Rotie 'La Mouline') I remember this being a bit of a sleeper Mouline, but by this point and after 15 or so courses, we were all sleepers! The nose was very open, rich and chocolaty with aromas of nuts and caramel. The palate was peppery and spicy, not that spicy but decent. It was nut city in the mouth and had a touch of coconut skin to it but was not as tasty as I remember, or maybe I was hallucinating at this point
