  • George Hendry is probably better known for his big zinfandels. However, this claret sure is a nice surprise and a lot of fun to drink. The blend is 26% Petit Verdot, 26% Malbec, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and 9% Merlot, and was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, approximately 70% of which were new.

Decanted thirty minutes. Dark purple in the glass, with nice aromas of ripe berry fruit, chocolate, and dried violets. On the palate, a concentrated band of spicy currant, plum, and blackberry fruit come in, with cocoa-laced oak on the finish. A touch of heat and big tannins show. 14.4% alcohol.

  • Very nice claret--the rich, buttery texture is complemented nicely by smooth, well incorporated tannins. Slightly unusual blend--consists predominantly of petit verdot and malbec. This wine is currently drinking nicely.
