Kurzes phenolisches Finish.
Leider trifft der Wein nicht meinen Geschmack.

  • Not sure about descriptors for Sherry. I'd say hay, roasted almonds. Compared to most Finos it is darker and has more on the nose. In the mouth it is smoother.

I'm of two minds on this one. It is very good and elegant for a Fino. On the other hand, I like Finos exactly for their rusticity. In the end, I vote yes and will buy it again.

  • Saca de Julio 2021. Huge body, bigger than any fino I’ve had before. Woody, intense nose with lots of earth and less apple… not an intro Jerez, but serious and complex. Very good.

  • Tasting Training for WSET Level 4, Units D4 + D5 - Session 4 (Dry Sherry, non-blind): Wine 2: Half-bottle, screw cap, bottled January 2021. The wine has a medium lemon colour. Notable deeper than the Tio Pepe. The nose has medium(-) intensity and shows aromas of acetaldehyde (bruised apple, hey, chamomile), nuts and almond.

On the palate the wine is dry, with low acidity, low alcohol and medium(-) body. The flavour intensity is medium, flavours include bruised apple, apple skin, hey, chamomile, almond and nuts. The wine tastes salty. The finish has medium length.

This is a very good quality wine since it shows good typicity, good complexity of aromas and flavours, the alcohol is integrated well, and the finish has medium length. To be considered being of outstanding quality the wine would need greater length.

The wine is ready to drink and not suitable for further ageing in bottle. With ageing it would lose with freshness and become bland and disjointed.

NB: Fuller, longer, and less bitter that the regular Tio Pepe Fino Muy Seco.

  • From memory, I recall this being low-level excellent, and worthy of a re-buy. A proper Fino, with some extra intrigue.

(NV El Maestro Sierra Fino Jerez) Nose of burnt rubber, almonds, slightly oxidized, with a wonderful texture and a salty sweetness on the finish. Lovely persistence and elegance. High-class sherry.

(NV El Maestro Sierra Fino Jerez) This was lovely and crisp with good salt tones. This is a great house that I need to explore more as the two sherries I have had from them have been top notch.
