I really like the style of 2003 Hermitage wine. 2003 is a mixed bag for most European appellations, but it really works in Hermitage. With lush, fat, rich, round textures, sweet, ripe and fruits that easily slide from the glass down your palate, the wine has weight, richness, complexity and length.

Tasted blind. Alcoholic and ripe, lacking acidity. Quite pruny. disappointing. I had no problem nailing this as a 2003 Hermitage. I have one of these - lets just hope it's better than this one.

Great Syrahs and Shirazes (Wine Route Tel Aviv): Dark and opaque ruby. Very good nose, alcoholic, dark, ripe fruits coffee and sweetness – 03 was a warm year. The palate continues the nose, full bodied, powerful, with soft tannins and a lot of sweetness in the mouth. Medium finish. Excellent (111$)

(Le Meal FERRATON Hermitage) Le Meal Dear Friends, To end the week, a wine I was served in Paris last month and its memory stayed with me enough that I didn’t hesitate when a small stash was offered. While I’m not a big fan of 2003 in the Northern Rhone, this wine is extremely impressive and it is priced at a level far below the top wines of the vintage. Chapoutier’s 2003 Le Meal now trades for a rather large sum and this is relatively inexpensive. Chapoutier is in charge of both wines, they are both farmed organically and they are both from a prized parcel of Le Meal. This is Ferraton’s top wine and they demand that it’s the very best expression of Le Meal - it is far more limited on release than the Chapoutier Le Meal. Seems to me the two wines may be more related than is reported (sort of a Texier/Chave situation)... EXTREMELY LIMITED - ONE SMALL SHIPMENT with perfect provenance: 2003 Ferraton Hermitage “Le Meal” (WA91-94) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone8920
