  • Dekantert.

Bonne longueur

  • Clear medium garnet with lots of fine/medium sediment; clean medium plus nose of bruised fruit, dried cassis, balsamic and a pretty florality; dry; high acidity; high tannins; high alcohol; medium body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of leather and fennel; long finish; more developed than I was expecting; based on this bottle, I wouldn’t wait much longer to drink my other bottles; bruised fruit note lingered the entire evening and was a little off-putting; purchased at auction - off bottle?

  • Dark deep red in colour, much darker then what I would expect from a merlot heavy Bordeaux. Fantastic red fruit driven nose: cherry, black current, plum, … At first relatively high acidity for a 2005 but this faded after 1 hour decanting. Also initially quite fresh and subtile complex mouth. This came more ample, fruit and tobacco driven after an hour. Licorice and soft tannin aftertaste which lasts quite long. This wine is at its summit but will stay here for some years. What a blockbuster! Only side remark: the 15% alcohol starts to feel heavy after the 3rd glass … I was home alone 🙄…

  • Showing the power of the vintage with plum, berry, cherry, bay leaf, cigar box. Tannins in check but may be overshadowed by the concentration and power still in evidence. Had on the nose but not on the palate an overlay of mildly cooked fruit that I associate with unbalanced over ripe wines when they start coming apart BUT this was easily ignored and a minor distraction. I think it’s in mid life, transitioned away from the fruit-forward power of its youth but not quite yet showing full secondary development. Very good/excellent, 4- (out of 5).
