Ruby to mahogany. Wonderful nose, incense, tobacco, cedar. Tannins fully resolved, very smooth. Lovely mature old fashioned claret. Red cherry, some blackcurrant. Great complexity, flavours as per nose too. Good acidity, finesse, medium length. Lovely with some lamb. Fully ready though, some may find it too much so but not me.

Pesky things, scores. I gave 92 to the 00 and 91 to the 02. This is better than the 02 and not far off the 00, but on its own merits would deserve at least 92. It's really very good, all the clumsiness of its youth a distant memory, powerful, yet refined, a solid base of deep, creamy cherry and loganberries, over which soars a middle section leaning towards redcurrant and hints of vanilla, before a fine, dusty finish which could only come from Margaux. Once again, a wine for fans of classic, old-fashioned claret, the sort which needs 15 years before drinking. Sadly, not a wine that is easy to find: most bottles will have been drunk a long time ago, before it hit full maturity. If you're lucky enough to come across some, don't hesitate.

Potential was there but only a few notes of finesse or elegance of such a pedigree should offer considering Cru Clasee classification. Predominant nose of meat and flowers. I would like more complexity. Palate is rounded but short and with a watery texture. I shall forget it soon. After all very good for what it is. Time for 2001 Bdx? Irish grilled beef was a good complement.

Better than my last Boyd 01, but not a patch on the Du Tertre 01 I tried last Thursday. The fruit is still clumsy and lacking in focus, even if there is a little more elegance and finesse than before.

Good, nice bdx. Not superfruit but very enjoyable, no persistent memories though.
