  • Nice wine, came about in the end after initially not being too flavorful.

  • Vinetasters: Cabernet Franc (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Pronounced menthol note on the nose, as well as some good black fruit. The nose is much better than the palate, which is clearly thinning out and turning a bit weedy. Dominated by acids and tannins. My 2nd, group's 1st.

  • Medium ruby color. The nose shows light aromas of bright red fruits, herbs, pepper and a hint of cedar. This is medium light bodied on the palate with ok concentration and decent class. The medium length finish features slightly rustic tannins.

After a Lenten sacrifice of wine drinking, the Dr. Konstantin Frank Cab Franc 2013 was a great choice. I can't say that I was completely successful in my Lenten endeavor but I tried - hard!
There's not too many wines that I'll award such high an honor of 96pts. But this one is worth it. Everything shines old world - relatively light alcohol of 13%, earthiness, acidity...
    Appearance:
Pale-medium purple, beautiful clarity, no real leg formation, more like a pinot noir.
    Nose:
Clean with light intensity. Char, burnt rubber - indicative of an oaken newer Nebbiolo. Sea spray, dust, chalkiness, hay. Much more old world than expected.
    Palate:
Dry, Med-acid, low tannin, full body. Pepper, earth, blueberry maple syrup, delicious purity, tartness.
    Conclusions:
This seems to be a high-quality wine at a very reasonable price. The attention to detail is astounding. It is one of the best cab francs I've ever tasted. Wow! A Beauty!
Finish = 31 secs - starts with fruit and earth and moved to autolytic.
