Rockss and Fruit

(Cote de Baleau) Nose of smoke, minerals, blackberry and bucketfuls of earth. Actually there might be some secondary tobacco notes in that nose too. Still primary and ripe in the mouth but with extraordinary balance and beautiful pure fruit. Finishes chalky with dusty, firm integrated tannins. A hint of black cherry lingers for a while. Great wine and awesome QPR. Bought at release for $13.99.

Still great for a half bottle! Must be cellar conditions that have kept this so well! No signs of the fortified (port) tastes I associate with wines that have passed their best still some fruit and leather, wife loved it and it is our anniversary vintage 98!
98 was a great right bank vintage tho!

Sort of the opposite of the Savigny from last night: boring, simple and not memorable...though correct. Sweet plum fruit and coffee scented nose. Silky, ripe fruit that does coat the mouth; however while it is "there" it has almost not impact beyond the tactile. There is just no depth. (84)
