Big round fruit, (black & red berries) dark and powerful. Nice jammy sweetness (in a good way). A hedonistic wine with plenty of extraction and presence but managed to stay classy and not go OTT. Balanced and tasty -for when you are in the mood for a Zin with personality and stuffing. Surprisingly fresh and will probably drink well for several more years at minimum.
Granted, this was purchased on the hope that it wouldn't lose too much in eight years. More oak than I'm used to tasting in Carlisle, but that's probably because the fruit has subsided. The finish, too, was a bit short and tannins were largely resolved. At $40/btl and entirely unavailable elsewhere, it was worth a try, but I think the QPR is only 'fair.'
