90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Another sleeper of the vintage, this blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc emerges from the limestone soils outside St.-Emilion. An inky/purple color is accompanied by stunningly flamboyant aromas of melted licorice, white chocolate, raspberries, and black currants. Full-bodied, layered, gorgeously pure, and well above its official pedigree, this 2005 Joanin-Becot should drink beautifully for a decade.

Subtle at the beginning, after about 30 minutes this wine exudes all the characters of Bordeaux. This wine punches significantly above its weight at the $35 dollar price point I acquired it for at WineHouse in LA. While it may have been more expressive a year or two ago, this wine is still a great example of what aged claret can offer. Drink up! Overall: 92

Time to drink up. Fruit is pretty dried up, some elements of dark prune left along with mineral and cedar/oak. Some dried herbs. Past prime but still enjoyable.

Super souple et gouleyant. Sur la finesse et le fruit, des cerise, du mocha et du cèdre. Les tannins sont fondus et la finale bien longue nous laisse sur des relents de graphite. Excellent.
