Two bottles for wifey's birthday. One was promising but slightly closed, the second just had that little more of everything - cherry cedar and on the finish a hint of Parma violets. Still dark on the rim so should keep for a good few years yet but certainly approachable now with a decent decant of an hour or two
A half bottle. Deep & bold. Robust wine, echoes of smoke and gunmetal. Very good, no sweetness, no subtlety. Fine tannins still showing, quite good length. Perhaps just a touch of weakness, however, a falling off, in the last half glass? On the whole, though, good honest stuff, ready to go, and I would be hopeful that it may improve further.
Hedonsistisk nese med plommer, kirsebær, sigarskrin og blyantspiss. Følger opp i munn med en flott konsentrasjon. Viser flere lag i smakskurven. Fin noe strukturert, laaang avslutning. Mangler litt friskhet og syre for toppscore. Drikk nå.
This went wonderfully with a fillet mignon nice red fruit with earthy undertones, relatively light bodied for an 05, elegance and decent freshness mouthfeel could see this easily continue to evolve for another 5 pr so years

(Chateau Durfort-Vivens Margaux) This wine is perhaps a little closed down on the nose, showing little in the way of fruit character on the day, although there is some honeyed oak apparent. It also seems a little spirity - I wonder what the alcohol content is? Nevertheless, it has a lovely presence on the palate, with a fresh redcurrant, cherry and cranberry style. The style is supple, soft, rounded, and overall it is quite nicely put together, although it misses the vigour present in some other wines.
