  • Needed 30-40mins of air to open up. Was really a beautiful wine. Red fruit, really clear quince aroma and flavor, some earth with plenty of structure and a nice long finish.

  • Wow, what an interesting experience. This wine on open was completely muted, both aromatically and on the palate. With about 30-45 mins in the decanter though it really came to life.

The palate became sweeter with air, developing deeply concentrated notes of balsamic, licorice, and quince, accented with red fruit and earthy tones. The nose was very complex, exhibiting licorice, quince and autumn leaves, with perhaps a few lighter floral notes as well that were hard to distinguish. All of this within a very classically styled nebbiolo structure providing strong tannin and acidic backbone. The trademark tar, leather, mushroom that one expects with old nebbiolo were nowhere to be found. It's possible there was some rose baked into the nose, but not very obviously.

Needless to say, I would not have called this nebbiolo blind. I'm not sure what I would have called it, perhaps a bigger Burgundy?

Either way, went very well with roast chicken and vegetables and a lovely white truffle souffle generously provided by MLEH.

    Incredible indeed.

  • Pure red scented fruit, good balance, ageing, quite lush, elegant and delicious though not overly complex. Holding up very well but won’t improve

  • This was on fire! Maybe it was just my bottle, but after 30 minutes this beast emerged.. The nose could not be ignored - notes of leather, smoke, and dried cherry. There were some notes of Animalia, more leather, and deep earth on the palate. It was bang on!

  • Knights of Alba (KOA) BYO Barbaresco Dinner (Legacy Records): Had next to the ‘96 Pora and it surprised me how closed down that wine was and how happy and open this one was. Well structured nad well integrated. I liked this better this evening.
