Delicious nine year old Cabernet from Mike Smith. This shows the signature Kenefick Ranch fruit - heavy on the blues. The tannins are smooth and the wine is drinking terrifically at this point. Was a nice counterpoint to a 2014 Quivet Pellet Vineyard cab opened alongside it.
I’ve thought about how to rate a wine I truly don’t like. My gripe is how you ruin an amazing grape like Cabernet Sauvignon by making it mega purple, ripe, fruit bomb & sweet? Are you appealing to the Kendall Jackson Chard crowd migrating to red wines? You can taste a Million Bordeaux wines and NONE will taste like this. I think this wine appeals to new red wine drinkers for the most part who have only California wines in their cellar. This wine will NOT appeal to Bordeaux lovers. At all. My palate HATES any kind of sweetness. My wife was Ok with this wine. I was not. So maybe it’s just my palate?
Wow... so much improved since the last bottle, this had no rough edges!!
Last bottle seemed to be too much fruit forward leaving the back end sort of hollow, but this bottle everything is firing together, fruit, tannins and oak all seem to be seamlessly integrated, great black and blue fruit with just a hint of vanilla, not super complex but just a joy to drink. Paired well with appetizers and the bottle seemed to be the WOTN, its direct competitor - 18 Realm Bard, plus a smathering of others not even in the same ballpark.
No rush to drink em if you got em.. but definitely a treat if you want to partake in a bottle tonight!!
Full throttle Napa Cab. Very nice for the style and a good QPR for the genre. I found it a little cumbersome and velvety and a bit more high tone and lift would have propped it up a couple of points. Sill, a crowd pleaser and it's easy to understand why.

Did not have time to decant but a big, balanced fruit-bomb of a wine - enjoyed by 4 of us . Very similar to other Mike Smith cabs we have tasted in the past.
