  • A perfect bottle, direct import from a Negotiate via K&L. It has seen only Chateau & Negotiate storage.

Love, love, love the style of 80’s Bordeaux. Especially, the very good 80’s vintages. The style at this age is just so good as is the 12.5 ABV.

The fruit is still very solid & fresh. Ruby; blackberries, plums, poached strawberries, black raspberries, raspberries & blueberries hues. Lead pencil for days, some light v/a-bandaid, used tobacco w/ ash, very used leather, dark spice, understated mushroom, baking spices- light nutmeg/clove, cinnamon, vanillin, dry, river stone, limestone, dark rich soil with dry leaves, mix of dry and fresh herbs, touch of mint, moist clay, withering & dry dark, red, flowers, rainfall acidity and a well balanced, nicely structured, softly tensioned, beautiful finish that lasts 90 seconds.

Paired with/ Allen Brothers Cover Ribs.

  • Bottle in perfect condition; filled into the neck, cork intact. Medium to dark garnet colour. Dark fruit, black currant, plum, dark cherry, cedar, leather, tobacco, lead pencil, earth, truffle, mushroom, spices, and cinnamon, with good acidity, mostly resolved tannin, and good length. Medium-bodied, with good concentration and complexity, and a plush texture. In great shape! And there is a lot to like! Benefited from careful aeration. Drink now and over the next five or six years.

  • * opened 1-hour before serving, no decant.

A real overachiever, the '86 Chasse-Spleen is a lovely, fully mature and elegant effort.

Color - dark red core with a slightly brighter rim, no bricking. Very solid.

On the nose, lovely notes of leather, earth, tarragon, game, dark chocolate and wild berries, displaying complexity and seductiveness beyond your typical cru-bourgeois, and a liveliness well-beyond its age.

In the mouth, good depth and presence, opulent and round with lush fruit and soft tannins that still hold the structure together. Their is a delicateness about this wine, that suggests maturity without tiredness, as the freshness, flavor and balance are still very much there.

Quite a delicious and impressive effort that merits a very-well deserved 90 points on the night. Will probably last for some more years, but it isn't getting any better, so drink up.

  • OK, I’d have never guessed ‘86 Medoc blind. Soft, supple resolved tannins, dark berries and black plum with cigarbox and a little anise. Fully mature, nice claret in a softer style. B

  • Typically a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65-70%), Merlot (30-25%) and Petit Verdot (5%). Aged for approximately 12 months in oak barriques (40% new). 12,8% alcohol.

Dense, fully opaque and rather aged syrupy-brown appearance. The nose feels old, pungent and oxidative with aromas of salty liquorice and nutty rancio, some soy sauce, light earthy notes, a little bit of cold coffee and damp coffee grounds, an aldehydic hint of sorrel and a touch of gravelly minerality. The wine feels dry, old and oxidative on the palate with dull, tired flavors of nutty rancio, some salty liquorice, a little bit of damp earth, a hint of rancid walnuts and a touch of syrupy sweetness. The wine is high in acidity with a tiny bit of tannic grip. The finish is long, dull and oxidative with some tannic grip and tired flavors of soy sauce, nutty oxidation, some mushroomy funk and a little bit of damp earth.

Ugh, this bottle was just horribly oxidized. Based on the other TNs in CT, I'd chalk this up to just bottle variation - a 1986 Chasse-Spleen should not be this badly over the hill at this age. 65€ down the drain.

(Château Chasse-Spleen) From magnum - dark red violet color; graphite, cassis, and leather nose, that changes over 25 minutes to a stewed tomato nose; leather, porcini and tart red fruit palate, but still tight; medium finish
