A trio of 64's. Haut Brion, Cheval Blanc, and Leoville Barton. All three were in good condition, and all three showed the vintage. For me, that means a touch on the fleshy side, not block buster, but after 49 years, you have to applaud a vintage that keeps on drinking well. My ranking was HB, Cheval, Barton. Out of 9, it was about about split between the Cheval and HB for favorite, with one vote for the Barton. All three showed well.

Dinner at Chris Palm's: Minimal notes taken. The color is a murky brick red. At first I thought this was slightly corked, but ultimately decided it wasn't. The nose smells old an offers sour cherry fruit with some prune/overripe fruit, earth and mushroom aromas. In the mouth this shows much lighter weight than the other wines served, but is delightful with nice cherry and earth flavors. Still somewhat tannic, but I would say well past its prime.

Tasting Group Dinner - Paella, White Burgundy, Steaks, and Bordeaux (Chris Palm's House, Minneapolis): Murky brick-red color. The palate shows high-toned, slightly stewed red fruit, sour cherry, fresh mushrooms, and a hint of funk. Nice smooth texture. Light- to medium-bodied. Medium finish. Fully mature.
