Still pretty dark in color for a 30 year old. I have 5 bottles left and need to get busy drinking them before they go over the hill. They are definitely declining but still pretty good. My wife hated it because she loves big bold young Cabs. I love them also but also love an old dusty Cab. It is definitely declining with soft tannins. Drink up!

Vinetasters: Robert Mondavi Reserve (1970-1998) (Skokie, IL): Served blind in a Mondavi lineup. A fairly middle-of-the-road example, with a somewhat more dilute palate. The fruit still strikes me as mostly primary, showing a bit of tart plums and cherries. The tannins are in the midst of being resolved; this is a fairly light example. Seems a bit tart, overall, perhaps something like 15 years old? My 5th, group's 6th.

Had at a tasting dinner celebrating Mondavi wines. I was excited to try a 24 year old cab and was pleasantly surprised that it was still drinking well. Little fruit left, but it really complemented the pasta dish it was served with. A herb pasta, forest floor, duck confit, romesco.

Decanted. The wine opened in about 45 min. There is a nice "old Cab" nose of black currant, cherry, and pencil shavings.
The pallet is primarily black currant, eucalyptus, and oak, with black spice highlights. There is a decent finish of black coffee and tobacco. The tannins are very soft, with low acidity. The wine seems to have peaked, but it is still very enjoyable.

I'm afraid these 90's bottles are shot. This one was cloudy amber and no longer drinkable.
