Brunello Blind night at ES BK. Tasted blind over 3 hours. Appearance is cloudy, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of plums, dark brooding earth, mushrooms, honeyed sweet spice. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium alcohol (13%), drying high tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of dark plums, sour plums, black cherries, dark earth, dried herbs, savoury earth. Medium+ finish. Did lighten up a bit with more air, and acidity sensation improved. Complex, but ultimately a very tired old bottle. Not all vintages last forever I suppose. I'm sure everybody knows where Biondi Santi is located, with the name being virtually synonymous with Brunello di Montalcino.

Probably a bad year. Even so that wine had a sense of grace, like an old lady from a good family Could sense what it has been or what it could have been. A bit dried out and angular

Vini Rossi-L'Ultimo Piano (Asti Trattoria): An off year for Brunello, but we thought this might drink well now as our experience with Biondi-Santi is that the brunellos take years to come around, this wine was good but lacked the excitement of our excellent 1990 brunellos. It was musky and tart, threw sediment, seemed in decline. It had some lleather, Asian spice, and must on the nose, dried fruit and raisins on the palate, excessive acidity, and was not quite balanced. "It underwhelmed." But it probably drank as well as any 1994 Brunello and a few people enjoyed it and scored it well..
