4th Saturday Brown Bagger (Rich & Dana's): Aromas of caramel and blue fruit, but also something funky and odd. Dark fruit, spice and plum flavors. The fruit fades in the glass.

Inky crimson color; lighter meniscus. Notes of blackberry, cocoa, meat and herbs. Displays some floral notes with time in the glass. Full-bodied, with firm, chalky tannins and flavors of blackberries, raspberry and dark fruit. The long finish turns slightly bitter.

When first opened, I was afraid I'd let this bottle go past its time. But over a couple of hours, the slightly musty nose blew off and the palate opened up to reveal nice dark fruit, tobacco and leather characteristics.

Peppery, ripe blackberries on the nose with a brambly, earthy quality. Nicely integrated, and still drinking great. Noticing more black pepper this time. Rustic berry flavors. A long peppery finish that ends with a touch of sweet fruit. Paired well with Stuffed Mushroom appetizers.

Aromas of leather and dark cherries. There is real depth to the palate with cherry, leather, and a little oak. ($32)
