1975 and 1985 Bordeaux (Dan & Mila's place): Very fragrant and open bouquet. Light spice and red fruit flavors with light/medium body and good balance. Not the depth of fruit of some others, but a very attractive bottle.
Fill good? Check. Color good? Check? Price/value good? Well, if the retail price tag still on the bottle says $10.99, I guess the answer would have to be yes.
No moaning or groaning out there, I had no idea what to expect so on the off chance it was still in great condition, I decided to Coravin it so it didn't fade far away, dissolve or quite forget on me before I could get to a second glass. No worries there, it's in great shape! Still a good dark red, friendly nose quickly offering up cedar, graphite, leather, faded cassis, loamy earth, and a faint menthol in the background. Maybe a little less multi-dimensional in the mouth, with the graphite and cedar playing a stronger hand and virtually no discernible tannins. I'm grilling some lamb chops and I can't wait to see what they have to say to each other.
Quite a showing for an $11 wine on its 30th birthday. And my next glass should be as good as this one...
Opened two bottles for a dinner party in celebration of my daughters 30th birthday. Beautiful, dusty classic Bordeaux nose, nice garnet color, and good fruit and acidity remained. Absolutely lovely bottle of wine.
