Opened two bottles for a dinner party in celebration of my daughters 30th birthday. Beautiful, dusty classic Bordeaux nose, nice garnet color, and good fruit and acidity remained. Absolutely lovely bottle of wine.
This was the best surprise I'd had drinking wine in ages. Expected tired, over-the-hill, smelly Bordeaux. But this was fantastic. Balance between fading (but still present) fruit and the complexity/earth/other stuff that people love. Light but substantial, drank well over two nights under pump. Well cellared since purchased at charity auction 10 years ago.
Bordeaux / Bordeaux Blends with new friends (Extra Space): From a pop & pour bottle. Tasted blind. Dark brown colour with very slight bricking at the edge. Strong classic Bordeaux nose. On the palate, savoury flavours of blackcurrant and blueberry with just a slight hint of greeness from the Cab Sauv. Tannins nicely settled and smooth. Medium finish. Evolved over the next 60-90mins. Some smokey notes, sweet wood ?cedar, tobacco/graphite. The savoury fruits got sweeter and sweeter and tasted pretty damm good at 90mins. Alas, by then we reached the bottom of the bottle and hit the sediments. I guessed about 15-20 year old Left Bank Bordeaux. Good Bordeaux, fruits still quite alive after 29 years in this bottle.
