Tasted by msmallsr on 6/22/2009: Tasted fine, somewhat light for a cab. Weak finish. (658 views)
Tasted by talktastetravel on 5/23/2009 & rated 90 points: The fruit is showing fantastic. mellow tanins and showing great. Most likly at it's peek now. (771 views)

Tasted by wordstar on 10/28/2007 & rated 80 points: Nearly unbelievable, but this thing actually held up its' end after being pulled from the back of the cellar! It hadn't died and truly seemed to have benefited from being left alone. No distinguishing characteristics to be found, just a simple red table wine that drank well with a simple meal. Money well spent, and lesson in tasting fairly before judging driven home, again. (2276 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/6/2007 & rated 76 points: a kind of funky jolly rancher, off-balanced, watery currant wine. eh. for $3 ... drink it to get drunk. other than that ... ummm (2362 views)
Tasted by wcacern on 7/5/2007 & rated 75 points: clear garnet / purple color. nose has a yeasty dough smell, grain, birdfeed. over a few days smells of broccoli, cabbage, and asparagus with hints of mustard evolved. light mouthfeel with fake sugary aspect. sour cherry, pomogrante, pepper and caramel flavors and a hint of mildew. finished with smooth tannins.  Tasted by wineismylife on 10/14/2006 & rated 80 points: win's 40th Birthday Party (win's house in The Colony, TX): WIML80-82,NOWA,NOWA

Tasted October 14, 2006 at win’s 40th birthday party. Served blind in a Riedel restaurant series Bordeaux wine glass. Bag labeled as “Longhorns”. Dark garnet color in the glass, fairly clear throughout. Light and dusty nose of white pepper, red berries and maybe some potpourri or violets. “Pedestrian” flavors of red currants, red licorice and red berries. Definitely new world. My bet is this is the 2001 Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon. (4197 views)

Tasted by Totatalitarian on 9/29/2006 & rated 71 points: Two Buck Chuck gets a bad rap...although maybe that's just knee-jerking to the garages full of the wine that you see driving through many affluent suburban neighborhoods, tucked in behind the Lexus SUVs and kids' scooters. Personally, I've found it to be on par with and often better than many of the village or table wines one finds at even mid-level small town restaurants or nice family homes in Europe. Of course, they may not have had as powerful a varietal as cab to work with, but I can't fault Trader Joes for that. The wine was full of strawberry led fruit, soft, rich and ripe, with little discernible tannin, little comlexity and almost no finish. The one thing about the lack of finish, though...it sends people back to the glass quickly for that next sip, which might be recharacterized as "very drinkable." It's quality depends what you compare it to, I guess, but I think it's a great bargain. While I don't serve it, myself, I have been known to take a bottle to the mountains or beach on a picnic and have the better part of a case in the garage that I plan to mull come the holdiays.  Tasted by win on 6/23/2006 & rated 86 points: Really not that bad. Light red in color, but the acidity seems unbalanced. Have had other years of 2BC, but the 2001 is the best, IMO. Hint of green bell pepper mixed with a background of distant vanilla--but still comes across as fairly sweet. I can buy 20 cases of this instead of one bottle of a 2005 first growth. Hmmm....this just tells me there is a huge middle ground. (3860 views)
Tasted by win on 3/26/2006 & rated 85 points: Hint of green bell pepper and sweet red cherry. Not bad--part of my aging experiment. (4320 views)
Tasted by hcampana on 3/24/2006 & rated 83 points: 2001 California Cabernet tasting (Montelena, Insignia, Pride, Paloma, Neal, etc.) (San Marcos, Texas): This was Wine Number 6. The lightest color of all wines tasted. The nose was full with non Cabernet aromas of sweet strawberries and cinammon. Medium bodied and very sweet, with a siyrupy, Hawain Punch taste. This was clearly picked as the Two Buck Chuck. It ranked last in my list and in almost everybody's. (4821 views)
Tasted by GlenD on 11/2/2005 & rated 85 points: Quaffed her right down. Soft, fruity and no hard edges or bitterness. Was just as good on the second day as the first, so it must have a year of life left in it.

Some of these 01's appeared at my local TJ's after seeing only the 02's on the shelf for a long time. Of course, they were clueless as to why. So I bought a few as a tester, and there was no problem. I went back to stock up for Thanksgiving, and they were out of every single bottle of Shaw cabernet, 01 or otherwise. Impressive the volume they must go through.

Tasted by 2buckchuck on 4/16/2005: This is a light berry taste, a nice finish for a cheaper wine, for most of us
this is a fine everyday table wine to enjoy with your new york or filet, but
I am sure you top notch smugies would rather pass on anything so inexpenssive?
but to the rest of you remember it is not the cost of the wine but how You
enjoy it.. (5463 views)
Tasted by BurgundyRed on 2/7/2005 & rated 76 points: This is not my first bottle of "Two Buck Chuck." Every since my California Brother-in-law alerted me to this buy and we connected with a Trader Joe's, we've developed a chummy friendship. The bouquet is nothing to talk about, not offensive, but not much there. The color is nice and clear, what one would hope for in a nice glass of wine. The taste is good, simple, berry, not complex at all. I'm reminded of Rumpole, John Mortimer's character portrayed in the PBS series, "Rumpole of the Bailey," who enjoyed going to Pomeroy's Wine Bar for some cheap Claret, his "Plonk." "Two Buck Chuck" will do the same for you, put a smile on your face because you didn't spend a chunk of money, and it will make you regular. The after taste is not bad, its not much either, nothing lingering to speak of. I suppose the serious wine drinker could poo-poo this wine in many different ways, but for a nice inexpensive wine with a meal, its hard to beat. I've spent three times as much for a bottle that did not satisfy as well as Charles Shaw. ---BurgundyRed (4762 views)

Tasted by Anonymous on 3/21/2004 & rated 82 points: This score was a charity score, since someone brought this wine to the Last Tasting. Nose of vanilla, blueberry, and graham cracker. (4835 views)

Tasted by Eric on 1/10/2004 & rated 75 points: Seattle Tasting Group does German Riesling (Issaquah, WA, USA): Jason is CRUEL for tossing this in. The nose was green and somewhat herbal, and guessing blind I thought this was Cabernet Franc. On the palate this continues to show some green with a prickly mouthfeel and a sickly sweet palate. I actually retched uncontrollably the three times I tried to taste this, as it was unnaturally sweet, almost as if sugar had been added AFTER the the wine was bottled. Blech! (5537 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
