2005 Chateauneuf du Papes (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Red fruit with a bit of caramel. Medium bodied with grenache-y red fruit. Simple but nice. Everyone thought this had the most grenache of the lineup but it's just 60%. (my 3rd, group's 3rd)

Great intense nose with wild berries, earth and meat. Palate is showing good structure, typical of a young firm tannin red. Good intensity of flavors of red berries, earthiness and tobacco- kept evolving with nice complexity. Medium plus finish. I'll wait anoter year to open another bottle.

2005 Chateauneuf du Papes (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Reticent nose, some red fruits, cranberries maybe. Medium bodied, red fruits, baking spice, bit of herb. Nice texture and complexity. (my 3rd, group's 4th)

nice fruit, nice acidity, enough tannic structure for a fatty piece of duck. 89-91pts
