  • Medium ruby in color with some bricking & clearing at the edges. Moderate & subtle nose of mature, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & cranberries with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty notes, spices, minerals & a hint of sandalwood in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of matured, well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & cranberries, herbs & minerals. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at 40 years of age & is at its peak of development, so drink up. Ullage was well below neck/shoulder slope & cork was saturated & crumbled upon opening. A good example of a well-aged Burgundy.

  • This bottle looked pretty good but the cork was noticeably sunken. The wine had a red center and tan rims. There was a fair amount of sediment, and it tasted great, so I elected to include it in the decanter. I find that this can add backbone to older Burgundys.

The medium intensity nose showed cherries, forest floor, wax, raisins, and black spices. In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with a silky mouthfeel and great integration. The tannin was very light and rounded and the fine grained acidity supported attractive fruit detail.

This bottle seemed to have been not well cared for in some way, as it appeared prematurely advanced. I don't think it was the 1983 rot but the nose was definitely funky. While reasonably nice, it was not quite right. On the other hand, this wine was lovely in the mouth but clearly on the downslope.

    Drink up!

  • Second Sunday Group: 2015 Burgundy (Augie's): Courtesy of N, of course. Insanely pretty- aromas of cherry, sweet tea, violet, rose and potpourri. On the palate this shows cherry, tea and lavender. Picks up mineral elements as it sits in the glass. Flavors of cherry liqueur, mineral, rose water and mineral. Balanced, with a long finish. Just awesome. Thank you N!

  • Mature color. Has the very sweet fruit I associated with 1983, no rot whatsoever. Similar to the recently drunk '83 CD Gevrey Clos St Jacques, higher acid that needs food to buffer. Long finish. Don't see a huge upside to waiting.

  • Light color and some funk on the nose. Showing great for the vintage. Better on the palate. Not as good as my last bottle but still enjoyable.
