Our last of six bottles received directly from the winery upon release. Based on our previous bottle on 5/29/23, we did a PnP. Once again, this wine showed lighter in body and flavor than other vintages of Hanzell's Pinot Noir. With kudos to OldWines and others whose bottles showed the true nature of Hanzell Pinot Noir, this bottle followed our previous 2013 vintage bottles and showed only light cherry and earth notes on both the nose and the medium to minus bodied palate.

2 large coravin pours, one with grilled Fliet Mignon and one tasted over several hours. In my opinion this is not a Pnp wine. While excellent with the beef, it darkened with the air in the glass overtime and gained depth of flavor and fruit. Initially it is a translucent medium ruby, and gets a couple shades darker toward garnet at 2+ hours. Over time the wine evolves with consistently nice acidity and layers of cherry, raspberry and pomegranate with baking spices and plenty of earthy, stony elements. At the winery tasting room they decant for 2 hours before each tasting, so I think this proves out in my experience now and previously as well. This was a beautiful, elegant old-world style Pinot with that nice combination of lightness of texture but depth of flavor. Aging nicely with plenty of life remaining and I don’t think near peak yet.

Our fifth of six bottles received directly from the winery upon release. Based on our previous TNs, we did a PnP. Once again, this wine showed lighter in body and flavor than other vintages of Hanzell's Pinot Noir. Anticipating this we planned a lighter, less intensely flavored dinner to accompany this wine and the pairing was a success.

PnP as there was no time to decant. This bottle did not improve much over the course of the dinner but it did seem a bit fresher and livelier, though not more expressive. This wine continues to disappoint us as it presents lighter in body and flavor than other vintages of Hanzell's Pinot Noir. To be clear - it is far from undrinkable, just not up to the level of enjoyment of other vintages.

Aged well—kept in my basement cellar. Lots of deep fruit. Went well with Poulet en croute.
